Collective Assembly™ is an independent multi-disciplinary design studio for public benefit, the arts, non-commercial, and commercial alike.
We support and are fully immersed in the bottom-up movement of makers, craftsmen, open source hardware, software, and ideas.
We describe our process as Total Design¹ ² ³ a systematic approach that integrates physical and digital design disciplines to produce new and timely products, services, and experiences.
¹ In homage and respect to Total Design the design studio co-founded in 1963 by Wim Crouwel, a Dutch graphic designer and typographer.
² A cautious, perhaps blithe nod to the historical realities of utopian ideals when applied without proper scope and context, as noted in Whatever Happened to Total Design? by Mark Wigley, Harvard Design Magazine
³ Drawing from the Bauhaus School of Design; of applied arts, continual mentorship and practice, and ultimately the knowledge of the materials of today— traditional to current to emerging, physical to digital, material to immaterial.
