INDEX is inspired by the manicule aesthetic and behavior. The manicule ☞ was a symbol produced by the reader, not the publisher, to indicate and point at notable parts of the text. Usually seen in the form of a pointing hand in the margins of the text, the manicule (from the Latin maniculum or “little hand”) has been around since ancient times, but lost favor during the advent of the printing press which pushed off the manicule with industry accepted footnoting devices such as the * and the dagger: †.
INDEX—1 'FLAT' explores and expresses what we observe as the flattening, flatness, and related qualities of living in the world today.

"The FLATland makes new collisions possible, inevitable. Mismatched, juxtaposed, all-embracing, steals from everywhere, and then lays bare, inviting others to in turn steal. From this, new works are made, and the process made clear. The Library is free to access and utilize with your own skills; skills that we teach; or paid, for those with capital but no tangible skills; the latter of which we invite to become the former.”

"FLAT is transparent and real-time, treats all channels identically; no loyalty to any one medium because they are all precarious." In this spread, I'm recomposing images cut out, scaled, and blended from photos of original collages, paintings, and illustrations made by @_vs_rn and @threeepress.
The idea of a carrier signal being the various forms in which the mediums of print, paint, and digital are most expected as norms; the message is then free to live on in multiple forms for multiple audiences and interpretations; all resulting artifacts can then be shared for reuse in the Library while the carrier itself is expected to change with time.

Designed by continually multiplying, degrading, and resampling a combination of type and public domain images sourced using our copy as keywords, flattened until the composition becomes a new asset for reuse in the Library.
